Before the weather gets unbearably hot (as we know it will in the TX summer) get outside with your toddler or preschooler and go on a fun family picnic! While the idea of having small children in wide open spaces may sound too exhausting, you can eliminate some of the stress with good planning. Anytime you leave the house with your kiddos, a great rule of thumb is to keep the outing as simple as possible. Cramming too many activities into one afternoon can lead to grumpy children and an exhausted mom.

    1. Location, Location, Location – When deciding where to picnic start by doing it at a familiar place. You could even start in your own backyard or at a friend’s house. Being familiar with your surroundings will give you peace of mind to be able to enjoy yourself. Once your kids are older or whenever you are more comfortable, venture out to a local park or zoo for your picnic festivities.

    2. Bring a Friend – Children almost always do better when they have friends to play with. Even introverted children appreciate the company of another child to play with outside. Being outside is the perfect place to spark imagination so having a friend explore with your child makes it even more fun! Plus, having another adult to watch the kiddos means you will have a chance to talk to a grown-up and have another set of eyes looking out for your child as you look after theirs.

An Easter Egg Hunt can be a fun event for the whole family, but did you know it can also be an educational opportunity for your child? Here are six creative ways your child can learn through an egg hunt:

    1.Toddlers Can Learn Colors

Before letting your toddler loose to find as many plastic eggs as possible, tell your toddler only to collect a specific color or colors of eggs. This will help your toddler distinguish between different colors and make the game more challenging!

    2.Toddlers Can Learn Shapes

If you’re creating your own egg hunt, fill plastic eggs with different shaped objects. After the eggs are all found, reward your child for naming each of the shapes found in his or her eggs.

    3.Preschoolers Can Learn Numbers

If you’re creating your own egg hunt, use a permanent marker to number the plastic eggs before hiding them. Challenge your children to find the eggs in order from 1 to 20, or 1 to 100 if you’re that ambitious!

Is your child’s back talking becoming a problem? Are you tired of hearing “No! You do it!” from your toddler or preschooler? There may be something you can do to help curb those annoying, whiny, temper tantrums.

Instead of responding by saying “You’ll do it because I said so” or “Don’t ever talk to me like that!” there are other ways to help your child learn to disagree with you respectfully. The best way to stop back talk is to provide your child with some independence – but within your own limits. Kids of all ages need a sense of personal power to make their own choices and express their differences in opinions with parents. When parents make all the decisions for them, children naturally want to lash out, and so they do — with words and sometimes, physical aggression.

So how can parents teach their children to disagree respectfully? Read the full article here: How to Stop Back Talking Without "Because I Said So"

The experience of a newborn can be challenging for first time parents and the assistance of a professional child care facility can help. Kids ‘R’ Kids Learning Academy of Cinco Ranch SW in Katy, Texas, is dedicated to providing the best in infant care services. We have years of experience with newborns and infants, and can help parents adjust to their new lifestyle.

    Seeking help

A professional caregiver, or others with experience in infant and child care, can provide help to new parents, especially to working parents. Seek advice from friends, family or the nursing staff at your local hospital regarding childcare options. You can also discuss options with your doctor and look for resources online. Today, there are more options for assistance for busy parents than ever.

    Handling your child

An important factor that many first time parents may not consider is how to handle an infant. A baby is still developing and is highly limited in capabilities, and therefore will require gentle handling and firm support of the neck and head. Learning how to hold and to be gentle with your newborn is the first step in healthy development.

    Sensory stimulation

Your infant will need the right stimulation to develop his or her five senses. You can provide sensory toys, such as mobiles and soft and highly contrasting toys like a stuffed zebra, to help promote this development in your baby. Toys with a variety of sounds and music are also helpful.

If you would like more insight about how to provide the best infant care, or to learn about our exclusive Brain Waves™ Curriculum that offers individualized instruction for your child, contact Kids ‘R’ Kids Learning Academy of Cinco Ranch SW in Katy, Texas.

    day_care_katy_tx

The first few months and years of your infant’s life are the most important when it comes to brain development. Targeted mental stimulation is vital for proper growth and development. Your infant is born with 100 billion brain cells, and they will grow a trillion brain cell connections, known as neural synapses. Our infant child care program at Kids ‘R’ Kids Learning Academy of Cinco Ranch SW is focused on mental stimulation for each child, in the form of sign language, daily exercise, and a wide variety of learning activities that are taught in a comfortable and safe environment.

We have put together useful information on games you can play with your child to help stimulate brain development:

    Musical Games

Playing musical games with your child can help to heighten your child’s hearing and awareness, which aids in the rewiring of the brain. This is how you can do this:

    • Get a musical toy, wind it up, then play it and ask your child where the sound is coming from. When the child turns to face the sound, praise him or her. If your child is crawling, you can hide the toy and let the child crawl to locate it. Studies show that musical experiences enhance the ability to reason abstractly in the future.

    Peek-a-Boo

This game may require your child to be a little over 12 months. It is fun for the child, and at the same time aids in developing your child’s brain. This is how you play:

    • Cover your face with your hands
    • Say Peek-a-Boo, then “reappear” by uncovering your face
    • Let your child have a turn. Put your childs hands over his or her eyes, say peek-a-boo, and then uncover their eyes. Be very enthusiastic and say “There you are!”. This should be a fun time for both you and your child.

Research shows a game of peek-a-boo can help connect thousands of brain cells in your childs brain. Take time to enjoy playing brain developing games with your infant, observing as your child learns new tasks, indicating that his or her brain is growing and developing.

    childcare_katy_tx

Your child needs the best nutrition for excellent brain development. Having a healthy diet is not only good for the body, but it also plays a major role in your child’s brain development. The nervous system and brain will continue to develop until the age of three; therefore, for your infant to reach his or her full potential, it is vital that they receive proper daily nutrition. Kids ‘R’ Kids Learning Academy of Cinco Ranch SW understands the importance of good nutrition for a growing brain, so we offer some helpful information about nutrition to help with your infant’s brain development.

    Brain food for your child

Breast milk is generally the best food choice for your infant, because it is filled with all the required nutrients. Studies show that a child who is breast fed has as much as an eight point IQ advantage compared to a child who is bottle fed. Breast milk is the ultimate brain food for your infant because it has the right minerals and vitamins, and can supply your child with growth factors necessary for good development.

    The right fats

To help develop your infant’s sight, give him or her food with fatty acids like DHA and ARA. His or her brain will develop faster since these fats speed up the transmission in the neurons. These fats also play an important role in the immune function and in blood clotting. Fatty fish, breast milk or supplemented child formulas all contain these acids.

    Do not forget the iron

Your infant must have enough iron in their diet to produce hemoglobin, the part of the red blood cells that carries oxygen. If he or she does not get enough iron, they are subject to anemia and may form fewer neural connections, which can cause mental and motor deficiencies. Vitamin-C helps absorb iron so be sure to include this as well.

During the first year of life, your infant’s brain grows rapidly. Make it part of your child care routine to ensure your infant gets the nourishment they need to develop to their fullest potential.

Breast milk is usually the best choice for your infant. Breast milk has all the nutrients your infant needs. Some doctors suggest that breast milk is the ultimate brain food, citing studies that show children who are breastfed have as much as an eight point IQ advantage compared to children who are fed by formula.

Researchers found that higher levels of the fatty acids DHA and ARA help the development of babies visual systems. These fatty acids also speed up transmission of neurons, making for a faster brain.

Iron is essential for infants to produce hemoglobin, the oxygen-carrying part of red blood cells. Too little iron can cause anemia, which results in tiredness and lack of energy in infants and children. Without adequate supplies of iron, your infant will form fewer neural connections, which can lead to both mental and motor impairments.
